The ATSICPP Principle

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle (ATSICPP) is a framework designed to ensure decisions about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children respect their rights to family, culture, and identity.

At Family Safe Solutions, we recognize the importance of self-determination. We work closely with families and DCJ to ensure that cultural plans are not just paperwork, but living documents that keep children safe and connected.

The Five Elements of ATSICPP

We apply a comprehensive approach to every case.

Prevention

Supporting families early to prevent entry into the child protection system.

Partnership

Ensuring Indigenous families and organizations participate in decision-making.

Placement

Prioritizing placement with family, kin, or community when out-of-home care is needed.

Participation

Ensuring children and parents have a voice in decisions affecting their lives.

Connection

Maintaining connections to culture, community, and country for children in care.

Cultural Safety

Cultural Support Plans

Every Aboriginal child in care requires a Cultural Support Plan. We assist carers and caseworkers in developing meaningful plans that go beyond compliance.

Connection to Country

Identifying traditional lands and ensuring visits or connection opportunities.

Kinship Mapping

Identifying extended family and community members who can play a role in the child's life.
